Reluctant Android gets to the heart of the psi-fi conundrum: What is the essential difference between human and machine consciousness?
In this novel I decided to take the android’s point of view. Andy believes he is just an ordinary guy, a software engineer in Seattle, but increasing evidence convinces him he is actually a robot.
What would that be like, to realize one day that you were filled with circuit boards and databases instead of blood and guts? Would it make any difference to you? What would other people think? Would you tell anyone?
As Andy is pursued by curious and greedy scientists, he realizes he has at least one advantage over humans. He knows for sure that he had a personal creator and that he can have a direct conversation with him or her. Reluctantly, he accepts that he is a new kind of being, neither entirely machine nor entirely human. He calls himself a Newcomer.
This guy really is reluctant, because he’s not even out of the closet yet, so to speak. His official launch date is September 1, 2018. Until then, you can preorder the ebook at Smashwords (bit.ly/RA-smash) or Amazon (bit.ly/RA-kindle), or, if you just can’t wait, the paperback version is available now at Amazon (bit.ly/RA-paperback).
See www.psifibooks.com for details about the book. That’s the publisher, which is me.
Is Reluctant Android a great psi-fi book? Of course it is! Even so, I wanted it to get right to the core of psi-fi with this novel, but good as the story is, I decided there’s more to say. A sequel is in the works.
